The Fit Show Story Project

2026 Overcomer Award Winner — Brandy Morrison

Honoring the Strength You Don’t See on Stage

In a sport where the spotlight is often placed on physiques, symmetry, and stage presence, it’s easy to forget that every athlete who steps on stage carries a story far deeper than what meets the eye.

The Fit Show Story Project was created to bring those stories to light.

Why This Project Exists

The Fit Show Story Project began in 2020 with a simple, but powerful mission:

To share women’s stories of overcoming — and in doing so, inspire hope, confidence, and resilience in others to overcome their own fears and challenges on their journey.

Because the truth is… The most important transformation isn’t just physical.

It’s the battles fought in isolation.
The setbacks no one is there for.
The moments where quitting would have been easier — but wasn’t chosen.

This project exists to give those moments in every women’s life a voice.

The show Founder, Whitney Wiser Savage, knows a lot about overcoming devastating setbacks and is passionate about lifting women up who have chosen to keep going despite their setbacks. You can see a quick video about her story on the homepage HERE

More Than a Competition

Every year, athletes are invited to submit their personal stories in writing leading up to the show.

These are not surface-level highlights.

They are real, raw, and often deeply vulnerable experiences — stories of:

  • Overcoming self-doubt

  • Healing from past trauma

  • Rebuilding after loss

  • Battling mental or physical health challenges

  • Learning to believe in themselves again

As I read through each submission every year, one thing becomes very clear:

Getting on stage is NEVER just about getting on stage.

It’s about who you had to become to get there. And every story brings tears to my eyes every time.

The Overcomer Award

From these submissions, one athlete is selected each year to receive the Overcomer Award.

But this award is not about being “the best” story. There could never be a “winner” of who’s overcome the most or the hardest scenarios.

It’s not about that. It represents something much deeper.

It honors:

  • The courage to keep going when it would have been easier to stop

  • The willingness to grow through adversity

  • The strength to rewrite your own narrative

  • The decision to rise — again and again

  • The healing that takes place when a woman has to relive those moments to write it out and look at what’s she’s overcome

The Overcomer Award is a reminder that true strength is not just measured physically — it’s revealed through resilience and so much more.

Why It Matters

In a world that often celebrates perfection, we believe in celebrating progress, perseverance, and authenticity.

Because when one woman shares her story, it gives another woman permission to believe: “Maybe I can overcome too.”

And that ripple effect… That’s where real impact happens.

A Platform for Purpose

The NPC/IFBB Nashville Fit Show has always been about more than just a competition. It’s about building confident, empowered women — on and off the stage.

The Fit Show Story Project is a reflection of that mission.

It’s a space where stories are honored. Where strength is redefined. And where women are reminded that their journey matters.

To Every Athlete

Whether you submit your story or simply live it…

Know this: Your journey is powerful.
Your growth is worth recognizing.
And your story might be the exact thing someone else needs to hear.

Final Thought

At the end of the day, looks & trophies fade. But the woman you become in the process? That’s the real win.

Share Your Story

If you’re competing in this year’s NPC Nashville Fit Show, we invite you to be part of the Fit Show Story Project.

This is your opportunity to reflect on your journey, own your growth, and potentially inspire someone else who needs to hear it.

Below are a few guiding questions to help you share your story.

Story Submission Prompts

  1. What made you start working out or strength training in the first place?

  2. What made you decide to step on stage and compete, rather than pursue another fitness goal?

  3. What kept you going when things got tough — and why didn’t you quit?

  4. What is one thing that competing has taught you about yourself?

  5. Is there anything specific you’ve had to overcome? If so, what was that process like?

  6. Is there anything else you'd like to share about your journey?

You will have the option to use these questions or write your own story from your heart however you best see fit.

There is no “perfect” story — only a real one. Your story matters more than you think.

Stay tuned for more details and info on submitting your story in May.

More than a show… it’s a MOVEMENT!
